Abazović meets with civil activist Đukanović to discuss Brskovo mine project
Prime Minister Dritan Abazović met with Gordana Đukanović, a civil activist, to discuss the implementation of the Brskovo mine project.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Ms. Đukanović for her concern for the environment in Mojkovac and informed her that, as the Prime Minister, he had held several consultative meetings with representatives of the local community. During these meetings, the necessity of implementing the mentioned project for the benefit of the local community and the residents of Mojkovac was emphasized. It was noted that the realization of the Brskovo mine project is an existential issue for Mojkovac, as many residents are leaving due to a lack of job opportunities.
From the perspective of development policy and regional development policy, Prime Minister Abazović stressed the importance of further diversifying the economy and utilizing all the development resources that Montenegro possesses. In this sense, the implementation of the Brskovo project, which is expected to employ up to 700 workers, will have significant economic effects on the local community and the entire Montenegro.
Ms. Đukanović thanked for the opportunity to directly communicate with the Prime Minister and present all the arguments against the project's implementation. She mentioned that the project is not included in the Spatial Plan Draft and therefore cannot be realized as it currently stands. Additionally, she pointed out that the project's implementation would have significant negative environmental consequences, necessitating further analyses to determine how the investor intends to carry out the project.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister emphasized that he will fully respect the wishes of the citizens of Mojkovac and the local leadership as their representatives.
