Prime Minister Dritan Abazović said today that Montenegro has the ambition to build energy facilities for electricity generation from renewable sources in order to eliminate the imbalance between electricity production and proper supply and to brand itself as a green destination.

At the Regional Conference on Renewable Energy, Prime Minister Abazović said that energy is a topical issue because the energy crisis affects the whole of Europe.

The problem of Montenegro is the imbalance and the fact that in one period of the year we produce electricity, and in the other part we import it. This is an unacceptable concept for us because most of our cities have more than 250 sunny days a year. The goal is to start building new energy facilities, because we have not built any significant facilities in the last 40 years, said PM Abazović.

He said that regional cooperation is needed for energy projects and invited Norwegian investors and companies to participate in projects in Montenegro.

Abazović said that the contract for the "Gvozd" wind farm, which is expected to be put into operation in 2024, will be signed by the end of the year.

The Prime Minister said that the plan is to build a solar power plant near Podgorica, a wind farm near Budva and a solar power plant near Ulcinj.

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, the Norwegian Prime Minister's Special Envoy for Energy Andreas Eriksen, Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zoran Tegeltija, and Prime Minister of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovachevski also participated in the conference.
