British support for reforms and the development of free zones in Montenegro

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj met with the British Ambassador to Montenegro Dawn McKen and the Director of the British Council for the Western Balkans Clare Sears

At the beginning of the meeting, the participants emphasized the strong partnership between Montenegro and the United Kingdom, highlighting the UK's substantial support for Montenegro, both during its NATO accession process and in broader reform, democratic, and pro-Western initiatives. They also underscored the importance of the creative economy, with Gjeloshaj expressing his support for the embassy's initiatives in this field. 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Gjeloshaj particularly acknowledged the commitment, expertise, and sincere support of the British Embassy in drafting the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Free Zones. 

By involving British experts in the Working Group for drafting the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Free Zones, we aim to enhance the legal framework for free zones through joint efforts and in the spirit of alliance, aligning it with the most advanced and modern European and Western standards, stated Gjeloshaj. 

He also highlighted the significant increase in foreign direct investment from the United Kingdom into Montenegro over the past year, along with productive foreign trade exchange, as a strong foundation for deepening cooperation in other sectors, particularly tourism, innovation, and education. 

Ambassador McKen praised the dedicated efforts of the Ministry of Economic Development in establishing the Working Group for drafting the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Free Zones and expressed full support for its continued activities to ensure the group’s success and productivity.
