Bureau for Operational Coordination holds its ninth session
The Bureau for Operational Coordination held its ninth session, attended by Bureau members and Minister of the Interior Danilo Šaranović.
The session reaffirmed the excellent cooperation between the Police Administration and the National Security Agency. Strong support was expressed for the Ministry of the Interior and the Police Administration in their determined and systematic efforts to free the security sector from all unlawful influences. Recognizing and sanctioning those whose actions have not aligned with legal and professional standards remains the foundation of reforms and the overall recovery of the system. The Bureau strongly endorses the continuation of these activities as a key prerequisite for restoring public trust in institutions and strengthening the security system in the service of public interest.
The Bureau commended the Police Administration’s achievements in combating serious and organized crime, which in the past two months alone have resulted in the filing of approximately 800 criminal charges against more than 900 individuals.
Special attention was given to the results of the "Respect Life, Return the Weapons" campaign, which since the beginning of the year has led to the voluntary return of 3,472 firearms, 116,424 rounds of ammunition, 381 hand grenades, and hundreds of other weapon parts and explosive devices—surpassing the total collected over the past ten years within the same initiative.
The Bureau was also informed by the Ministry of the Interior that a working group has prepared a Draft Law on Road Traffic Safety, which will soon be open for public discussion. The Bureau expressed strong support for intensified traffic control measures by the Police Administration, which, in just 72 hours, resulted in the detention of 122 individuals for traffic violations.
The Bureau reminded that the failure to issue first-instance court rulings within three years, inefficiencies in judicial proceedings due to procedural abuses, and inadequate actions by judicial authorities regarding supervision violations pose significant security challenges. It reiterated the urgent need for amendments to all relevant laws in this area.
The Bureau also reviewed reports on the work of interdepartmental task forces and discussed various other matters within its jurisdiction.
