Deputy Prime Minister Bečić meets with German Ambassador Peter Felten
Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić held a meeting with Ambassador of Germany Peter Felten. Acknowledging the friendly relations between our countries that share common European values, the two officials expressed their expectation at the beginning of the meeting that cooperation between Montenegro and Germany would be further strengthened during the mandate of this Government.
Deputy Prime Minister Bečić highlighted that he is encouraged by the work of the new government, which, despite numerous inherited challenges, has already demonstrated determination in strengthening state institutions and accelerating the European path. He particularly emphasised the appointment of the seventh judge to the Constitutional Court, completion of the Judicial Council, appointment of the first female governor of the Central Bank in the history of Montenegro. As Deputy Prime Minister Bečić emphasised, these are key steps towards establishing the functionality of Montenegrin institutions, without which substantial reforms cannot occur. In addition, Bečić expressed the expectation that the appointment of the Supreme State Prosecutor will soon take place, representing another step in institutional stabilisation and progress on the European path. In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that it is time for Montenegrin society to move beyond ideological and identity divisions and focus on economic, social issues, and the rule of law.
After a long time, Montenegro has achieved institutional and socio-political stability, which is a key foundation for the successful implementation of reforms and overall progress. It is crucial that we continue on the path of stability, responsibility, tension reduction, teamwork, and accountability. The fight against crime and corruption is the cornerstone of the survival and future of our society. Continuous victories in the battle against the mafia are imperative. Therefore, there is no place for mafia structures, rotten compromises, and illicit influences in the security sector, concluded Deputy Prime Minister Bečić.
Ambassador Felten congratulated on the achievements in the first months of the new Government's work, expressing readiness for assistance and cooperation in the field of security, as well as all other areas under the responsibility of Deputy Prime Minister Bečić, which he considered crucial for Montenegro's future and European path.
The discussion ended with the confidence that Germany will continue to support Montenegro as a friendly country, NATO partner, and future member of the European Union in achieving common goals on the European and Euro-Atlantic path.
