DPM Bečić hosts EU Delegation Head Oana Cristina Popa for farewell meeting
During their farewell meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić thanked Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro Oana Cristina Popa for her significant contribution to advancing Montenegro's European path. He expressed satisfaction that, at the end of her mandate, she witnessed exceptionally positive results and news regarding Montenegro's European future.
We are immensely grateful for the help and support you have provided to Montenegro on its path to the European Union. Unfortunately, your mandate in Montenegro is ending, but the best way to conclude it is by crowning your long-standing work and successful mandate with receiving IBAR and directing Montenegro towards finalizing its European path, Deputy Prime Minister Bečić stated.
We are now at a crucial turning point on our European path. The results we have achieved, such as unblocking key institutions, adopting numerous laws, and implementing many reforms in various spheres, with a special emphasis on results in the fight against organised crime and corruption, have enabled us to receive IBAR and take a significant European step forward. However, we continue even more dedicated and determined to close a set of negotiation chapters by the end of this year. There is broad societal consensus on our European path, so I hope for the responsibility of all stakeholders, the continuation of good news, and I am confident that you will always be a strong supporter of Montenegro's European path, and that together we will celebrate Montenegro as the 28th member of the European Union, Bečić emphasised.
Ambassador Popa expressed her satisfaction with the long-standing, very correct, and successful cooperation she had with Mr. Bečić.
I remember that my first official meeting when I started my mandate in 2020 was with you as the President of the Parliament. Since then, we have had many meetings over these four years, always in an open, honest, and friendly manner, for which I thank you. I am glad that Montenegro's great success in receiving IBAR coincides with the end of my mandate. The right path for Montenegro is to maintain this positive momentum through the broadest political support for key reforms from the European agenda, Ambassador Popa concluded.
