DPM Bečić meets with Ambassador of Bulgaria Stefan Dimitrov
In a bid to strengthen the traditionally friendly relations between Montenegro and Bulgaria, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić met with Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria Stefan Dimitrov.
Dimitrov emphasised that our economic and trade cooperation does not align with political relations, stating, 'We must enhance collaboration in tourism, trade, and culture. To achieve this, it is crucial to establish connectivity between our capital cities, especially through the introduction of direct flights between Podgorica and Sofia', a move supported by Bečić as a positive step.
Bečić expressed satisfaction with the progress made in addressing key internal issues, highlighting exceptional results achieved in the past two and a half months, justifying the mission of the new government - achieving socio-political stabilization as a necessary precondition for comprehensive reforms.
The establishment of the full functionality of the Constitutional Court, Judicial Council, and Central Bank is just the initial impetus toward achieving complete social stability and accelerating Montenegro's European path. I am convinced that these processes of institutional stabilization and revitalization of the European path will be crowned on Saturday with the appointment of the Supreme Special Prosecutor after five years of waiting, Bečić emphasised.
Ambassador Dimitrov praised the excellent results achieved in a short period, noting the noticeable inclination towards inclusiveness by the new government, adding that 'majority support with which key appointments were voted in Parliament testifies that you are on the right path'.
Bečić highlighted the importance of a freely and peacefully conducted population census as evidence of Montenegro's democratic progress.
Reducing social polarization enables us to direct all the capacities of society towards key issues that unite us all, such as the economy, the rule of law, and the strengthening of institutions. We hope to continue progressing and in the coming months receive definitive recognition that we can commence the closing of negotiation chapters, Bečić emphasised.
The two officials also highlighted the Government's courageous and successful confrontation with numerous inherited challenges in the security sector.
DPM Bečić emphasised the ongoing arrests and prosecutions of police and other state officials, aiming to cleanse institutions of unlawful, criminal, and corrupt practices and influence. The goal is to instill a system based on sound principles where everything is clear and transparent.
