DPM Bečić meets with Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament

Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić met with Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament László Kövér. Deputy Prime Minister Bečić expressed his satisfaction at hosting Mr. Kövér, noting that after their previous meeting in Budapest three years ago, he is now pleased to welcome a high representative of a friendly country that has been a sincere and strong supporter of Montenegro's European path.

Bečić highlighted the numerous achievements of the 44th Government of Montenegro in a relatively short period, attributing these successes to the trust and cooperation with both domestic and international institutions. He emphasised that the future of Montenegro depends on the success of strengthening institutions and establishing a system grounded in the rule of law.

He spoke about the stabilisation of Montenegro's political situation, with the current government enjoying unprecedented two-thirds support in Parliament. The government's efforts in combating organised crime and corruption, which have become visible to the public, laid a strong foundation for remarkable results, culminating in receiving IBAR—a key milestone on Montenegro's European path. Bečić reiterated Montenegro's determination to continue achieving success on the road to EU membership, with the goal of closing several negotiating chapters by the end of the year during Hungary's EU presidency. We remain fully committed to realizing the historic goal and fulfilling the dream of many generations, aiming for Montenegro to become the 28th member of the European Union by 2028, he said.

Speaker Kövér expressed his pleasure in meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Bečić, assuring him that Hungary, during its EU presidency, will provide full support to Montenegro's European integration efforts.

I respect all that you have achieved in terms of internal stability in Montenegro. Without a doubt, you are the most prepared for EU membership, and you have our sincere support in continuing your successes. Holding high state offices, as you have, comes with great responsibility, but you can be proud to be in a position where you can do something truly significant for your country and people. Congratulations on your achievements so far, Mr. Bečić, Kövér concluded.
