DPM Ivanović meets with Irish Ambassador Ragnar Almqvist
Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met today with the non-resident Ambassador of Ireland to Montenegro, based in Budapest, Ragnar Almqvist.
During the meeting, both sides acknowledged the friendly relations between Montenegro and Ireland, grounded in shared European values. This was reaffirmed by the visit of former Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar to Montenegro in January this year.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović expressed gratitude for Ireland’s genuine and consistent support for Montenegro’s European integration. He highlighted Ireland as a prime example of leveraging EU membership to achieve national progress and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
Ivanović emphasized Montenegro’s readiness to further strengthen overall relations and explore concrete bilateral cooperation with Ireland, particularly in investment, tourism, education, science, technology, and research.
Ambassador Almqvist congratulated Montenegro on its achievements, emphasizing Ireland’s strong support for EU enlargement and Western Balkan integration. Ireland considers Montenegro the most advanced candidate for EU membership, showcasing that accession based on achieved progress is indeed attainable, Almqvist stated. He also reiterated Ireland’s willingness to provide political, expert, and technical assistance to Montenegro along its EU path.
The Deputy Prime Minister and the Ambassador exchanged views on current regional developments.
