DPM Ivanović meets with newly appointed Greek Ambassador Dimitrios Gioldassis
Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met today with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Montenegro, Dimitrios Gioldassis, and wished him a successful tenure.
The two officials agreed that Montenegro and Greece maintain historic and friendly relations, with the quality of bilateral ties best demonstrated through the achieved level and dynamic of political dialogue.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović expressed particular gratitude for Greece's continued support for Montenegro on its path to EU membership.
Ambassador Gioldassis extended his congratulations on Montenegro’s recent closure of three negotiation chapters and emphasized that Greece will continue to strongly advocate for Montenegro’s European integration. He underscored that the EU membership of Western Balkan countries, particularly Montenegro, is crucial for the stability and peace of the region and beyond. He described Montenegro as a model for other candidate countries and affirmed that the goal of EU membership is realistic. Furthermore, he assured that Greece is ready to provide both political and technical assistance to Montenegro in this process.
The meeting also explored opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of energy, infrastructure, tourism, environmental protection, trade, and culture. The importance of developing Montenegro's transport infrastructure was highlighted as a key aspect of advancing tourism.
Regional issues of current relevance were also discussed during the meeting.
