DPM Ivanović meets with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres
During his working visit to New York for the general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
Secretary-General Guterres thanked Montenegro for its support of the idea of multilateralism and the UN system. In light of current global challenges, particularly Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, conflicts in Gaza and Sudan, and the growing impact of climate change on biodiversity, Guterres noted that Montenegro is successfully progressing toward the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović emphasised that Montenegro greatly values its cooperation with the United Nations and that its diplomatic activities uphold and promote UN values and multilateralism. He added that for small countries, active participation within the UN system is of particular importance.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović also informed Secretary-General Guterres about the current stage of Montenegro’s negotiations with the European Union, highlighting the complementarity between the EU accession process and the joint development projects Montenegro is undertaking with the United Nations.
