Gjeka-Plugchieva: Confirmation of the importance of the area of human and minority rights

Montenegro and Bulgaria are an example of confirmed successful bilateral relations, as well as sincere support and friendship, agreed Minister Gjeka and H.E. Meglena Plugchieva.

Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Fatmir Gjeka, spoke with the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Montenegro, H.E. Meglena Pulcieva.

Pulchieva congratulated Minister on the appointment and expressed her readiness to improve cooperation in the field of human and minority rights, and in the area of strengthening interculturalism between Montenegro and Bulgaria. Montenegro is a big country in a small territory, the Ambassador said, adding that it is a successful example of good inter-ethnic and inter-religious relations. She informed Minister Gjeka of the fact that Bulgaria invested financial resources for the implementation of eight projects in Montenegro in the previous three years and reiterated the possibility that the Ministry of Human and Minority rights should also consider project applications under its jurisdiction.

Minister thanked H.E. on confirmation of the importance of the area of human and minority rights. He additionally presented a plan for a new organizational unit that would deal with strengthening awareness of the importance of coexistence, expanding knowledge about cultures and nations living in Montenegro under the framework of interculturality.

Good cooperation should be nurtured and improved, Gjeka pointed out adding  that the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights will create further conditions for the development of successful models of cooperation in the areas of better realization of human and minority rights and policies of equal opportunities.

The interlocutors agreed that it is of particular importance for Montenegro to develop the realization of gender equality with an emphasis on the economic empowerment of women, bearing in mind the extremely small percentage of them who own real estate.
