High-Level conference on cybersecurity challenges and opportunities in the Western Balkans

The Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), with the support of the European Commission, organised the second High-Level Conference on “Cybersecurity Challenges and Opportunities in the Western Balkans” in Tirana. The event brought together experts and representatives from various sectors to discuss important issues regarding cybersecurity in the region.

The conference included discussions on critical infrastructure, featuring practical solutions from both private and public sector perspectives, and exploring how emerging technologies can enhance security for critical infrastructure.

One of the key panels focused on critical infrastructure. During this session, the representative of CIRT highlighted the current challenges facing the region and emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and continuous education to improve the resilience of critical infrastructure against cyber threats.

The conference convened representatives from the economies of the Western Balkans and relevant regional and international actors to discuss priorities for improving cybersecurity in the region. Some of the key conclusions and recommendations from the conference include:

  • Joint activities within the framework of the Regional Action Plan.
  • Strengthening cooperation between the EU and the Western Balkans on cyber threats, including global data sharing.
  • Integration of the Western Balkans into the EU Cybersecurity Certification Framework.

The conference provided a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas that will contribute to enhancing the region's resilience to cyber threats.
