Ibrahimović in Barcelona: Montenegro committed to dialogue and cooperation, two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace in the Middle East
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated today in the 9th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) in Barcelona. He was invited by European Commission Vice-President Josep Borrell, Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, and Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares.
Foreign ministers from 43 countries discussed current organisational reforms and pressing regional challenges, with particular emphasis on the Middle East crisis.
Montenegro stands ready to make its utmost contribution and will continue to act as a constructive partner on both the regional and global levels, serving as a bridge for dialogue and cooperation, Ibrahimović emphasised.
Addressing the situation in the Middle East, he underscored the need for a united international effort to secure a ceasefire and uphold international law and humanitarian principles. "We condemn any act of violence against civilians and call for de-escalation, dialogue, and intensified diplomatic efforts. A two-state solution is the only path to establishing lasting peace," Minister Ibrahimović stated.
Recognising the Mediterranean as a longstanding crossroads of civilizations and a model for constructive progress, he highlighted the importance of fostering closer cooperation based on shared interests, particularly "maintaining peace and stability as prerequisites for further economic and overall development."
Ibrahimović also reflected on Russia's aggression against Ukraine, a threat not only to European security but also to democracy and the rule-based international order. He affirmed Montenegro’s continued full support for Ukraine’s defence of its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
In his address, the Minister recalled Montenegro's successful partnership with the Union for the Mediterranean in organising the recent "Gavro Vuković" Summer School for Young Diplomats. "We bear a special responsibility toward young diplomats—future decision-makers and the stewards of our shared future. Montenegro, proud of its centuries-old tradition of diversity, remains steadfastly committed to European and Euro-Atlantic values, good neighbourly relations, and multilateralism," Ibrahimović concluded.
On the Forum’s sidelines, he met with Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, as well as held discussions with the President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Oliver Röpke, and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji.
