Ibrahimović meets with Foreign Ministers of India, Morocco, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan

The high-level week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly has provided an opportunity for numerous bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event.

On the final day of his participation at the UNGA, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met with the foreign ministers of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar; Kyrgyzstan, Zheenbek Kulubaev; Morocco, Nasser Bourita; Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili; and Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.

During talks with the Indian foreign minister, Ibrahimović expressed Montenegro's interest in enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly focusing on economy, investment, and tourism. Minister Jaishankar noted that India sees Montenegro as a partner in the Western Balkans region and agreed that there is room and interest to further strengthen cooperation and relations based on friendship and mutual respect. Both ministers emphasised the importance of multilateral collaboration and the strengthening of high-level political dialogue.

The meeting with the Kyrgyz foreign minister focused on strengthening bilateral relations and economic cooperation, with an emphasis on organising bilateral consultations to explore opportunities for further collaboration. Ibrahimović and Kulubaev also signed an agreement between the governments of Montenegro and Kyrgyzstan on the visa waiver for holders of diplomatic and official passports, marking a step toward enhancing contacts between the two countries.

The discussion with Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita focused on deepening economic cooperation, particularly in the areas of energy and renewable resources. Ibrahimović highlighted the importance of holding the second round of political consultations, noting the significant role of parliamentary cooperation in bilateral relations. Minister Bourita stressed the importance of strengthening diplomatic ties, especially within international organisations, where Morocco and Montenegro have a strong working relationship.

In his conversation with his Georgian counterpart, Ibrahimović highlighted the shared foreign policy goals that provide further impetus for the development of bilateral relations. He reaffirmed Montenegro's commitment to EU integration, emphasising that European and Euro-Atlantic values have no alternative. The talks also covered economic, tourism, and energy cooperation, with both sides expressing readiness to work together to realize the potential for more dynamic cooperation in these sectors.

The meeting with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov centered on the friendly relations between the two countries and their mutual dedication to strengthening these ties. They underscored the importance of political and consular consultations between their foreign ministries, viewing them as the best way to map out opportunities for furthering bilateral relations. Both ministers also stressed the significance of economic cooperation, especially in infrastructure projects and tourism.

Throughout all bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister Ibrahimović briefed his counterparts on Montenegro's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2026/2027. The meetings reaffirmed Montenegro’s growing international reputation and its strategic commitment to building strong partnerships on both bilateral and multilateral levels.
