Ivanović, Lajčák: Montenegro's EU membership by 2028 is a realistic possibility

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met today on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum with the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues Miroslav Lajčák.

Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović expressed gratitude to Lajčák for his ongoing commitment to promoting the European future of the Western Balkans, reaffirming Montenegro's full dedication to fulfilling its obligations under the European agenda.

Lajčák stated that the possibility of Montenegro becoming a member of the European Union by 2028 is realistic. He emphasised the crucial importance of Montenegro maintaining its current momentum and staying focused on its primary goal—EU membership.

He also congratulated Montenegro on receiving IBAR (Interim Benchmark Assessment Report) and noted that the progress Montenegro is making is recognised within the European Union and by member states, serving as an encouragement for other candidate countries in the region.

The meeting also covered current regional developments.
