Minister Injac takes part in meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence
Minister of Defence Olivera Injac is participating in a two-day meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of Defence Ministers, which takes place at the NATO Headquarters on Wednesday 16 February and Thursday 17 February 2022. The meeting is chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The importance of preserving the unity and cohesion within the Alliance is an important precondition for the successful action of the Alliance in the implementation of agreed measures, in order to preserve the stability of the Euro-Atlantic region. In that context, the ministers emphasised the importance of maintaining the continuity of the mutual consultation process, as the dynamics of developments in the global security field require constant adjustment in order to provide an adequate and timely response. As the Alliance has been carrying out a comprehensive adaptation over the past years, the ministers analyzed the results achieved so far in that area and gave guidelines for further work, especially having in mind the upcoming Summit in Madrid in June. The importance of strengthening and modernizing NATO's force structure was emphasised as one of the very important elements that will contribute to the credibility of deterrence and defence. This will improve the Alliance's ability to provide a timely response to all potential security challenges.
Minister Injac said that Montenegro continues to contribute dedicatedly and responsibly to collective allied efforts to preserve stability in the Euro-Atlantic region, and reminded that our country, for the fourth year in a row, participates in NATO's enhanced presence in the east. She pointed out that this year Montenegro continues with the trend of gradually increasing the percentage of defence spending, in order to build and strengthen the necessary capacities and capabilities.
Referring to the situation in and around Ukraine, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the foundational principles underpinning European security. The ministers also expressed support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, recalling that NATO remains committed to its dual-track approach to Russia: strong deterrence and defence, combined with openness to dialogue.
