Second day of Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence
On the second day of the meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of Defence Ministers, which was held at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, the Defence Ministers discussed further improvement of cooperation with the European Union and strengthening the strategic partnership of the two organisations. The Ministers noted that significant progress has been made in this area in the previous period, especially bearing in mind the current security situation in Europe, which is a challenge not only at the regional but also at the global level.
An important element, which significantly contributes to these efforts, is the previously adopted Joint Declaration on Cooperation between the EU and NATO, which is the basis for the implementation of objectives of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the security situation in the Eastern Europe was analyzed and concerns were expressed about current situation in and around Ukraine. On that occasion, strong support was expressed for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and Ukraine, and the right of each nation to choose its own path was pointed out.
Minister of Defence Olivera Injac pointed out that Montenegro, as a candidate country for membership in the European Union, strongly supports the strengthening of cooperation between NATO and the EU, especially bearing in mind the fact that the two organisations share common values and commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic region. In that context, she pointed out that the intensified cooperation between the two organisations will contribute to the strengthening of the transatlantic relations, as well as more efficient coordination in the field of facing global security challenges.
