Montenegro forms Demography Council
At today's 23rd session, the Montenegrin Cabinet, upon the initiative of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Demography and Youth, has adopted a Decision on the formation of the Demography Council. The President of the Council will be Deputy Prime Minister for Demography and Youth and Minister of Sports and Youth Dragoslav Šćekić, and the Council will consist of representatives from all relevant institutions.
The objectives of the Council are to organize activities involving state bodies, state administration bodies, local self-government bodies, local administration bodies, and other relevant institutions; to monitor priorities, dynamics, and deadlines for implementation; and to evaluate the achieved results.
It was emphasised that, at the initiative of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Demography and Youth, a Working Group for the preparation of the First National Demography Strategy will be formed. This group will be composed of officials who will continuously work on the development of the aforementioned document, with a focus on the issue of population emigration beyond the borders of our state, as well as internal migrations, primarily from rural to urban areas and towards the central part of Montenegro.
The Council will submit initiatives, proposals, opinions, and analyses related to the overall population movement, changes in its structures, and changes in economic, social, cultural, educational, health, and other indicators affecting specific components of demographic development to the Government and ministries. It will propose to the Government the undertaking of specific measures and activities significant for demographic development when necessary in certain areas, such as measures and activities related to improving the standard of living in rural areas, enhancing employment opportunities, improving the availability and quality of education, and more.
