Montenegro Participates in UN Food Systems Summit
The delegation of Montenegro, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management Vladimir Joković, participated in the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+2), held from 24 to 26 July 2023. The summit brought together more than 2000 participants from 180 countries, including over 20 heads of state and government and 125 ministers, with the aim of exploring challenges and opportunities for transforming agricultural and food systems.
During the three-day event, under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the participants of UNFSS+2 had the opportunity to review the commitments made during the 2021 Food Systems Summit, assess progress made thus far, share success stories, and familiarize themselves with further priority measures focused on achieving the Agenda 2030.
The Director-General of FAO, Qu Dongyu, reminded delegates that FAO provides a neutral space for dialogue among all member states and stakeholders in the agricultural and food systems. This facilitates mutual learning and consensus-building on specific solutions and joint actions necessary for the transformation needed globally.
Qu Dongyu extended an invitation to all participants to attend the World Food Forum 2023 - one of the most effective global platforms for continuing the dialogue on the transformation of agricultural and food systems.
Montenegro's active participation in the UNFSS+2 demonstrates its commitment to addressing global food system challenges and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals outlined in the Agenda 2030. The delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Joković, actively engaged in discussions and shared its experiences and insights, reaffirming Montenegro's dedication to building sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food systems for the future.
