National Anti-Corruption Strategy is a priority
Minister without Portfolio Zoran Miljanić met with Acting Supreme State Prosecutor Maja Jovanović and Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović. The meeting stated that Montenegro needs a National Anti-Corruption Strategy and the rapid formation of a new National Council in charge of this matter.
The Acting Supreme State Prosecutor pointed out that she is aware that the public has high expectations of the State Prosecutor's Office and that the state prosecutors will try to justify those expectations with concrete results in the fight against corruption.
Minister Miljanić said that the results achieved in recent months in the fight against high-level corruption were encouraging, expressing expectation that these institutions will continue to apply a principle of equality before the law.
He added that such an approach should be recognised in the next report of the European Commission.
The Chief Special Prosecutor stressed that it is necessary to improve the efficiency of work of prosecutors, especially when it comes to financial investigations, emphasising that he expects the support of the Government in hiring competent expert associates in that area.
Furthermore, they agreed that it is necessary to improve the working conditions of prosecutors.
