Prime Minister meets with representatives of Ulcinj Municipality and Municipal Assembly
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić visited the Municipality of Ulcinj today, where he met with President of Municipality Genci Nimanbegu and representatives of political parties in the Municipal Assembly.
The meeting focused on the development vision for Ulcinj, investor interest, and the ongoing beach lease tender.
Prime Minister Spajić emphasized that Montenegro is at a pivotal moment for intensive development and the attraction of leading global investors.
It is up to us to make smart decisions. Many times in the past, this was not the case. I conveyed to the people of Ulcinj a message from one of the world’s leading investors, the companies Emmar and Eagle Hills, expressing their interest in presenting their vision for the development of Velika Plaža and a leading tourism project in Europe, stated the Prime Minister.
He further explained that after the expiration of the Economic Cooperation Agreement with the United Arab Emirates in 2022—an opportunity that previous governments failed to renew—this Government will restore this partnership. This agreement will serve as the foundation for potential major development projects in both the northern and southern regions of Montenegro.
With representatives of political parties in the Ulcinj Municipal Assembly, we discussed the interests of the local community and the state of Montenegro. I also conveyed a message from the UAE and investor Mohamed Alabbar regarding a project that will be discussed in the coming period. We heard diverse opinions, concerns, and issues that arise with every major vision. Every large-scale initiative requires significant effort, and that is why we must approach it thoroughly and in partnership with the local government, said Prime Minister Spajić.
At the Prime Minister’s initiative, the investor decided to allow local entrepreneurs to retain the beaches they had previously leased, at the prices they had bid in the tender process.
President of the Municipality of Ulcinj Genci Nimanbegu stated that the potential project is a significant and crucial matter for the municipality.
This is not a decision to be made hastily; it requires discussion and consideration of all arguments. I want the Prime Minister to convey to all investors he is in contact with that they are welcome here and that their presence is in the best interest of the local community. For decades, we have seen a certain stance from the government, but the Prime Minister's visit here today signals a different approach, said Nimanbegu.
Representatives of political parties in the Ulcinj Municipal Assembly expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for his openness and willingness to jointly assess major development projects while considering the specific needs of the local community.
