Prime Minister Milojko Spajić extends congratulations on Journalist Day in Montenegro

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić extended his congratulations to all journalists and the entire media community in Montenegro on 23 January, Journalist Day.

In times of growing challenges, where fake news spreads faster than ever, and when all socially responsible entities are expected to ensure transparency, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making, the professionalism and ethics of journalists play a pivotal role. Your invaluable contribution to the democratic and economic growth of our society cannot be overstated, said Prime Minister Spajić.

In his message, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of journalists' willingness to delve into all aspects of society and to cover both centers of decision-making and the margins of society with empathy and responsibility. This, he stated, makes media professionals crucial witnesses and heroes of our time.

The Prime Minister also highlighted Montenegro's progress in the media sphere, as evidenced by the positive IBAR and the closing of Chapter 10 – Information Society and Media. These milestones were preceded by the adoption of a set of media laws and the Media Strategy proposed by the Government, which have been validated by European partners as proof of Montenegro's unwavering commitment to the European agenda and the improvement of the media environment.

Fully aware of the work that lies ahead in advancing media freedom, protecting the dignity and safety of journalists, and ensuring justice, particularly in the unresolved crimes against journalists and freedom of speech—issues that undeniably weigh on our society and hinder further progress—we remain committed to implementing European policies and practices, Spajić stated.

I am confident that we are on the right path to building a nation with functional and robust institutions, where all citizens are equal and journalists are free and professional, delivering objective news and stories from every corner of Montenegro and European capitals, the Prime Minister concluded in his message.
