Prime Ministers of Montenegro and Kuwait: Spajić and Al-Sabah pledge to renew cooperation, prioritizing tourism, energy and agriculture
The governments of Montenegro and Kuwait are committed to revitalizing and strengthening bilateral relations while establishing new and effective avenues of cooperation in the fields of tourism, energy, infrastructure, and agriculture. This was the key message from the meeting between Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
I am confident that the potential for cooperation between our two friendly nations is vast. Montenegro seeks to further develop tourism, particularly health tourism, establish itself as a regional leader in renewable energy, and expand its agricultural sector with the goal of exporting products to the Kuwaiti market. These are all areas where we can collaborate, stated Prime Minister Spajić.
Prime Minister Al-Sabah expressed Kuwait’s keen interest in renewing diplomatic and economic ties and investing in projects of mutual interest, which will be further explored in the coming period.
The Kuwaiti side expressed its willingness to explore specific investment opportunities in Montenegro, emphasizing the importance of closer cooperation between the two governments and their respective business sectors.
Prime Minister Spajić also highlighted Montenegro’s interest in restoring the direct air route between Kuwait City and Tivat.
This route, operated by Kuwaiti airline Jazeera Airways, was highly successful during its operational period from June to October 2023. We are confident it would perform equally well in 2025, especially considering that Kuwaiti citizens do not require visas to enter Montenegro. Our goal is to extend these connections beyond the summer tourism season and ensure year-round air traffic, Spajić noted.
Prime Minister Al-Sabah emphasized the need for greater promotion of Montenegro in Kuwait and expressed his willingness to assist in enhancing its visibility among Kuwaiti travelers and investors.
As Spajić stated, Montenegro is keen on attracting investments from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, given its potential to serve as an investment and tourism hub for the Western Balkans.
The two prime ministers also agreed on the importance of resolving Montenegro’s longstanding financial obligations to Kuwait, dating back to the era of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY).
Both leaders expressed confidence that the traditionally strong and friendly relations between Montenegro and Kuwait will continue to grow, developing through concrete projects and initiatives across various sectors.
