Spajić with participants of the European Diplomatic Academy: We carefully approach the selection of diplomats - we want the right people to be in the right place
During his visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić met with participants of the European Diplomatic Academy, with whom he discussed the European perspective of Montenegro, expectations from membership and the importance of integration for the Western Balkans region.
The Prime Minister spoke about Montenegro's experiences in the process of joining the European Union with an emphasis on the current situation in the field of internal politics, which, as he pointed out, represents a strong support for European integration after several years of turbulence. "About 80% of our citizens support membership in the European Union. In Montenegro, there is finally a stable political majority ready to respond to citizens' expectations and deliver results in that direction," said Spajić.
The Prime Minister discussed the importance of diplomacy with the participants of the diplomatic academy and informed them about the current situation in Montenegro. "We are aware that the diplomatic-consular network has been quite weakened in previous years. Therefore, the Government approaches all processes, including this one, with responsibility and dedication. A new diplomatic structure cannot be established "overnight". It is a process that we handle carefully and we want the right people to be in the right place. This is the only way to achieve the set goals", he said.
During the meeting, they talked about the opportunities in the European Union, especially the need to dynamize the enlargement policy, and it was assessed that the admission of new members is important both for the candidate countries and for the very idea of European unification.
Ambassador Petar Marković also attended the meeting held in the premises of the Mission of Montenegro to the European Union. He pointed out that, in communication with Rector Federica Mogherini, the possibility of holding one of the Academy's lectures at the Mission of Montenegro to the EU is being considered. "Our goal is for the participants to become familiar with the work of the diplomatic-consular representation, which is the first in line to become the Permanent Representation of the next member state in Brussels," he said.
The European Diplomatic Academy is a pilot project organized by the European External Action Service and the College of Europe in Bruges, which is intended to grow into a permanent academy that will educate diplomats of member states on common values, priorities and approaches to diplomacy.
