As part of his working visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić also met with Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, with whom he discussed the results of the Government in the first months of the mandate, with specific reference to the progress in chapters 23 and 24.
Progress in the area of the rule of law is the backbone of the further process. We believe that we have made significant progress in this regard in cooperation with the Parliament, and we expect more good news, said the Prime Minister.
Commissioner Reynders welcomed the results achieved in the first weeks of the mandate of the 44th Government and said that a good political dialogue is reflected in reform processes, which is the best approach both for social progress and for results in terms of the rule of law. In this context, he pointed out that the appointments to the judiciary are an excellent signal from Montenegro and a reflection of the successful cooperation between the Government and the Parliament.
The Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić, informed the Commissioner about the plans to strengthen the legal regulations and pointed out that numerous solutions are being prepared that will strengthen the independence of the judiciary and contribute to efficiency in terms of handling cases and the speed of decision-making.
Our goal is to strengthen legal certainty because it is the best support for a legal society and a stable business environment. In this sense, we are determined to enhance cooperation with the Venice Commission so that the key reforms in the judiciary would take place in the desired manner and within the expected time frame, Spajić said.
During the meeting, there was talk about the ethical and disciplinary responsibility of judges and public prosecutors, as well as models for alternative dispute resolution, which, as assessed, would be a good message to potential investors. The interlocutors expressed their determination to bolster the cooperation between the Government of Montenegro and the European Commission in this regard as well, in order to reach solutions that are in line with the best European practices through joint efforts.
It is the best preparation for Montenegro's future membership in the European Union, the interlocutors agreed.
