Stoltenberg invites Spajić to NATO Summit in Washington: Looking forward to our meeting in July
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić spoke today with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg regarding the preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit scheduled for July this year in Washington.
The two officials exchanged information about Alliance activities and agreed that Sweden's membership, which has the consent of all member states, will in a unique way strengthen the North Atlantic Alliance.
We look forward to the alliance with Sweden, confident that it will contribute to the Alliance's goals in the best possible way, the Prime Minister stated.
In the context of defence spending, Prime Minister Spajić emphasised that Montenegro is at around 2% of GDP, expressing confidence that additional spending for the purchase of patrol boats from France will also impact an increase in this percentage. Depending on the timing of the purchase of two patrol boats, we expect Montenegro's defence spending to exceed 2% of GDP by the Summit in July, Spajić said.
Secretary General Stoltenberg emphasised that Montenegro demonstrates commitment to the Alliance's goals on all fronts and confirms itself as a credible member. In his conversation with Prime Minister Spajić, the third since the election of the 44th Government, Stoltenberg highlighted Montenegro's key role in the Western Balkans and mentioned his particular appreciation for Montenegro's support to Ukraine, as well as the Government's stance on defence spending.
Stoltenberg invited Prime Minister Spajić to participate in the upcoming NATO Summit, stating that it will be an opportunity for further discussions on important issues on the agenda.
I look forward to further cooperation with you and your Government, as well as our future meeting in July in Washington, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg conveyed in a phone call with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.
