Three days of mourning declared following tragedy in Cetinje
In response to the tragic event that occurred today in Cetinje, the Government of Montenegro, in an emergency teleconference session, has declared January 2, 3, and 4 as days of mourning.
The Government has called on municipalities to cancel performances and concerts scheduled for this evening, 1 January.
This horrific tragedy has deeply affected all of us. All available units are on the ground in Cetinje, working to locate the perpetrator. I sincerely hope that the medical teams can save the lives of those injured, who are in critical condition. We will also hold a session of the National Security Council to discuss numerous measures, including the possibility of a complete ban on firearm ownership. After this tragedy, we must ask ourselves who should be allowed to possess firearms in Montenegro, stated Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.
As a reminder, the days of mourning are observed by lowering the national flag to half-mast on all buildings of state institutions, local government offices, and public institutions, in accordance with the Law on State Symbols and the Day of Statehood of Montenegro.
In line with this decision, public, cultural, and entertainment events will not be held in public spaces, and music will not be played in hospitality establishments.
Electronic and other media outlets are required to adjust their programming to reflect the observance of the days of mourning.
