Tillieux: Montenegro is a future member of the large European family
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić began his official visit to Brussels with a meeting with President of the Belgian House of Representatives Eliane Tillieux.
During the discussions, the outstanding bilateral relations between Montenegro and Belgium were emphasised, reflecting continuous political dialogue and excellent cooperation within NATO.
Tillieux expressed Belgium's appreciation for Montenegro's alignment with the EU's common foreign and security policy. She encouraged the new government to continue with ongoing reforms.
I would like to greet the efforts made by Montenegro so far, a future member of the large European family, and encourage the Prime Minister to progress further in this regard, which I have no doubt about after our meeting, where a strong commitment to a positive future in the European Union was demonstrated, conveyed Tillieux.
Prime Minister Spajić briefed the Speaker on the numerous achievements of the 44th Government within a short period. He underscored the importance of political stability, resulting in historic support for crucial decisions made in the Parliament.
The Prime Minister presented the plan for further reforms and emphasised the significance of expert support from the European Union.
At this moment, the accession process is our top priority, as it will bring many benefits, including economic integration. Entry into the single market of 500 million people will enable us to provide citizens with living conditions on par with developed countries. Economic development cannot occur without a genuine fight against corruption, so tax system reform is crucial for us, and we have already taken initial steps in that direction, stated Prime Minister Spajić.
It was concluded that Montenegro has a significant opportunity to take important steps on the EU path during Belgium's presidency of the Council of the European Union, and full support for this endeavor was assured.
