Butorović: There is no place for ideologies of hatred in Montenegro

The statement made by the President of the Municipality of Pljevlja, Dario Vraneš, represents an unacceptable and direct provocation that severely threatens the multiethnic harmony in Pljevlja. The use of symbols associated with ideologies of division, hatred, and crimes is not only intolerable but wholly unacceptable for any public official—especially for someone who is supposed to embody unity and serve as a voice for all citizens, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, or political beliefs.

This socially irresponsible behaviour, which creates unrest among the citizens of Pljevlja, clearly demonstrates that Dario Vraneš has little regard for the people he is supposed to represent. Instead, he appears willing to fuel divisive rhetoric and hatred for his own narrow political interests. His actions are not only morally reprehensible but also politically dangerous, as they directly undermine the fundamental values of Montenegro—democratic equality, interethnic trust, and the shared civilizational values of a European society.

Montenegro cannot and will not become a hostage to politicians who glorify ideologies belonging to the darkest chapters of history. Such actions are an insult to all citizens of our country and a disgrace to Pljevlja, a town that has long stood as a symbol of coexistence and tolerance.

I call upon all institutions, political entities, and citizens to unequivocally condemn this act and to ensure that such behaviour is not normalized in public or political discourse.

It is time for those responsible to face consequences for their actions—not only moral but also political and legal.

Montenegro is a country of peace, equality, and unity, not a platform for regressive ideologies and nationalist provocations.
