Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović emphasised the importance of the meeting between Western Balkan leaders and EU representatives, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Debate in New York. He highlighted that this gathering confirms Brussels' strong interest in EU enlargement and underscores the desire to bring Western Balkan countries closer to EU membership.
During the working lunch hosted by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, Ivanović pointed to Montenegro's significant progress over the past ten months. He outlined an ambitious but realistic plan to close all negotiation chapters by 2026, with the goal of Montenegro becoming the next EU member by 2028.
Ivanović also mentioned Montenegro's active participation in the adoption of the "Pact for the Future" as part of the "Summit of the Future." He reiterated Montenegro's commitment to fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals, which are aligned with the country's European integration processes.
