DPM Bečić meets with newly appointed Ambassador of Serbia to Montenegro
Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Serbia to Montenegro, Nebojša Rodić.
At the beginning of the meeting, Bečić wished the Ambassador a successful tenure in Montenegro, expressing confidence that the historical ties and friendly relations between the two countries would continue to be reflected in mutual readiness for political dialogue, while respecting the principles of sovereignty, integrity, and mutual respect, which are the basis of successful mutual relations.
Bečić expressed his belief that Ambassador Rodić's rich life, diplomatic, and political experience would contribute to renewing diplomatic relations and strengthening cooperation between the two countries on solid foundations, with the aim of creating a better future for all citizens. The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the strong and unbreakable family and friendly ties between the citizens of both countries, noting that these relationships have remained unaffected by different phases and variations in political-diplomatic relations. He expressed hope that in the future, the quality of relations between citizens would mirror the quality of political-diplomatic relations between the two countries, focusing on topics that unite rather than divide them. Bečić emphasised that even when differing views on certain issues exist, mutual respect and cooperation should always prevail.
Ambassador Rodić expressed his honor in being in a position to contribute to improving relations between Montenegro and Serbia.
The Ambassador expressed genuine delight that his presence in Montenegro provides an opportunity to elevate political relations to a level corresponding to historically close and friendly ties, following years of atrophy in political and diplomatic relations between the two countries. He expressed confidence that the successful period ahead would result from mutual policies and political commitments.
Deputy Prime Minister Bečić briefed the Ambassador on the key achievements of the new Government, particularly highlighting those in the security sector.
Bečić said that the successful operations, including the disruption of smuggling networks, seizure of contraband, and arrest of individuals involved in criminal activities, underscore the effective collaboration between Montenegro's security sector, the Special State Prosecutor's Office, and relevant prosecutors. These actions reflect a commitment to upholding the rule of law and combating organised crime. He emphasised that such efforts align with Montenegro's strategic goals, including EU membership aspirations. He highlighted the nation's focus on fulfilling the necessary criteria for accession, emphasising the importance of promoting democracy, the rule of law, and European values in the region. Bečić expressed optimism about Montenegro's role in facilitating the European integration process for its neighbours in the Western Balkans.
The Deputy Prime Minister also cited reaching the necessary consensus, which, after a long series of years, enabled the unblocking of key institutions that had been in acting positions for many years.
Rodić praised the results of the new Montenegrin government in unlocking the judiciary and fighting organised crime and corruption, emphasising their importance for Montenegro's European path.
Your results are truly impressive, so I am confident that you will fully justify the trust of the citizens, and during my tenure, I will witness historic events in Montenegro, concluded Ambassador Rodić.
