European future is the best guarantee for long-term security and stability in the Western Balkans
Minister of Foreign Affairs Filip Ivanović met today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania Igli Hasani, who is paying an official visit to Montenegro.
The visit of Minister Hasani is a confirmation of the excellent relations and the friendship between Montenegro and Albania, as well as the closeness of the two neighbouring and allied countries, stated Minister Ivanović.
The Minister emphasised that Montenegro and Albania share a European perspective, along with a commitment to regional cooperation. This, coupled with active and credible NATO membership, provides an additional impetus for further collaboration.
Highlighting Montenegro's determination as a leader in the integration process to make strides towards EU membership through reforms in key areas, the Minister stressed that the "shared European future is the best guarantee for the long-term security and stability of the Western Balkans."
Minister Hasani expressed that Montenegro, as a friendly and neighbouring country, a NATO ally, and a leader in the European integration process, sets an example for other countries in the region. He stated, "Our bilateral relations are excellent, and we collaborate very well within NATO and through regional initiatives."
Expressing satisfaction with the mutual commitment to further strengthening ties between the two states and peoples, Minister Hasani emphasised the importance of a shared European perspective. He assessed that any progress made by Montenegro towards the European Union is good news for Albania. In this regard, he highlighted the importance of cooperation in enhancing the stability and security of the region, as a prerequisite for further development and progress on the European path.
The discussions also touched upon opportunities to improve economic cooperation. The two officials agreed to focus on implementing joint projects related to the construction of a bridge over the Bojana River, as well as sustainable fisheries management in the Skadar Lake region and the Bojana River. The importance of infrastructure projects, particularly in the energy sector, was emphasised as a significant resource for further overall economic cooperation.
