Injac participates in extraordinary meeting of NATO Defence Ministers
Minister of Defence Olivera Injac participated in an extraordinary meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of Defence Ministers at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The meeting, chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, discussed the current crisis in Ukraine.
The defence ministers strongly condemned the aggressive actions carried out on the territory of Ukraine during the past weeks and called for calming tensions and the withdrawal of Russian forces, in order to find diplomatic solution. Considering that this is the biggest security challenge on the territory of Europe in the last decades, the ministers discussed the possible implications of the conflict on the overall stability of the Euro-Atlantic region. In that context, it was emphasised that the presence of allied forces on the eastern borders has been significantly strengthened in the past period. Also, the importance of cooperation with partners, primarily the EU, was emphasised, since only in that way can a coherent and efficient response to challenges of common interest be provided.
Ministers also addressed measures to reinforce NATO’s collective security for the longer term. Mr Stoltenberg also outlined NATO’s rapid response to protect all Allies, including with activated defence plans and raised readiness.
Minister Injac expressed support for preserving the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as its right to choose its own path. She also emphasised the importance of the Alliance's effective response, which is reflected in the strengthening of the Alliance's presence on the eastern borders, which sent a clear signal of NATO's determination when it comes to protecting the Euro-Atlantic region.
Minister Injac pointed out that Montenegro is committed to the common goals of the Alliance, stressing the importance of unity.
