Montenegro and Ukraine begin consultations on Draft Agreement on security cooperation and long-term support

Today, at Ukraine's initiative, consultations commenced on the Draft Agreement on security cooperation and long-term support between Montenegro and Ukraine. This Agreement serves as further evidence of Montenegro's political commitment to support NATO and EU efforts in maintaining international peace and stability, as well as in defending Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, in accordance with international law and obligations.

To date, 23 NATO member states, as well as the EU and Japan, have signed similar agreements with Ukraine. With this Agreement, Montenegro reaffirms its dedication to strengthening collective security and cooperation as part of the broader international community.

The Montenegrin delegation was led by Todor Goranović, Defence and Security Adviser to the Prime Minister, along with representatives from the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Defence. The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude to Montenegro for its continued support, while the Montenegrin delegation reiterated its commitment to the principles of international law and solidarity with Ukraine in its pursuit of independence and sovereignty.

During the meeting, it was emphasised that Montenegro will continue to provide military, financial, material, and humanitarian support to Ukraine, in accordance with agreed frameworks and common goals, based on the implementation of conclusions from the NATO Summit in Washington.
