Port of Budva returned to citizens: Government to support all good ideas and projects
Returning the Port of Budva to the citizens is the first step towards fully realizing the potential of Budva in the context of maritime transport, stated Prime Minister Milojko Spajić during an event held at the port, which has been transferred to the management of the Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management (Morsko dobro).
The state is the only entity capable of fully pushing forward large strategic projects, like the ones we plan for the full utilization of the Port of Budva. Opening international maritime routes is just the beginning, and an ambitious agenda requires the full support of the state. I guarantee that the Government will back all good ideas in Budva, as well as in any other municipality. We welcome every good project and initiative, and the role of the Government is to ensure that these ideas are realized. This is the only way we can ensure that more large projects are implemented simultaneously, leading to the desired economic growth, added Prime Minister Spajić.
By taking over the management of the port, conditions are being created for the establishment of a ferry line with Croatia, and the development of the Port of Budva is being promoted for the benefit of all citizens, emphasised Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Filip Radulović.
This is a significant step towards establishing the international line Budva – Dubrovnik, which will enhance the quality of the tourist season in Budva, and ease the burden on the border crossing with Croatia and the overall traffic on the coast, stated Minister Radulović.
Through effective cooperation between the Government and the Public Enterprise Morsko dobro, the issue of another resource, now returned to the citizens, has been resolved in a short period. Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism, and State Property Janko Odović highlighted that this move also rectifies an injustice due to the underutilization of the port's potential.
This proves that hard work and effort truly pay off. We managed to bring all interested parties, who were previously opposed, to the same table and come to a solution, returning this significant infrastructural resource, which has great potential, to the citizens of Budva and Montenegro, he stated.
The initiative for this idea came from the Public Enterprise Morsko dobro, and Director Mladen Mikelj emphasised that it continues a three-year effort to return important resources to the citizens.
From today, we take on the responsibility for this important location. We will work to make the Port of Budva more attractive and open to all. We will enable hardworking people to find employment and make the port more appealing. We will provide fishermen with free berths, Mikelj said at the gathering.
We recall that the Montenegrin Cabinet, in a teleconference session on 20 May, adopted the Information by which the management of the Port of Budva is assigned to Morsko dobro.
