On the second day of the visit to Hungary, Minister of Foreign Affairs Filip Ivanović met with Minister responsible for European Union affairs János Bóka.

During the meeting, it was confirmed that Hungary, during its presidency in the second half of 2024, will strongly support Montenegro on its European path, encouraging the closure of as many negotiation chapters as possible to accelerate Montenegro's progress toward full EU membership.

"Montenegro remains committed to fulfilling obligations on the European agenda, and we welcome Hungary's unequivocal support," said the Minister, emphasising the importance of previous expert assistance and support for the negotiation process. Financial perspectives were also discussed, with mutual agreement on the necessity of including Montenegro in EU plans.

Minister Ivanović concluded his visit to Budapest with a visit to the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs. In the discussion with the President of the Institute, Gladden Pappin, and a group of researchers focusing on the Western Balkans, opinions were exchanged regarding Montenegro and its foreign policy priorities, as well as aspirations for full membership in the European Union. There were discussions about the possibilities of collaboration and project cooperation with Montenegrin institutes having a similar portfolio. Representatives from the Hungarian Institute expressed their commitment to contribute, within their capacity, to bringing Montenegro closer to the European Union. It was concluded that Montenegro, as the most advanced state in the region regarding European integration, has a realistic chance to swiftly approach the European Union.
